Broadband
Arcor - is a telecommunications operator in Germany. It was established on 23 Jan 1997 with the merger of DBKom and CNI (Communications Network International). Arcor is an important alternative player in the fixed service segment. Through its own unbundling efforts and resale activities, it provides voice and data communication service through the whole of Germany, catering for residential and businesses customers. Arcors also holds 74.8% of the shares of the local network operator Netcom Kassel which it is using to trial IPTV in the second quarter of 2007.
AOL Deutschland - offers dial-up and Broadband services
United Internet - is an ISP that provides its telecommunication services to residential, home office, small and medium business customers in Germany. The operator offers its internet services through its four brands, GMX, Web.de, 1&1 and Schlund + Partner.
T-Com - is Deutsche Telekom's wireline unit. Dominates the DSL market.
T-Online - is Deutsche Telekom's ISP. Historically dominated the DSL Internet connectivity market.
Deutsche Telekom (DT) is the incumbent telecom operator in Germany. It operates under four strategic divisions; T-Mobile, T-Online (International), T-Systems and T-Com that cover the entire range of telecom services. DT has progressively been aiming to gather up the various divisions back into its fold.
DT announced in March 2007, to line up its business model more consistently on broadband services and mobile internet. For the benefit of all current and potential new customers, brands and offerings will be simplified radically: T-Home will stand for offers to households, T-Mobile for services on the move. The new portfolio is aided by a second brand with mobile and DSL offers which are directed especially towards very price-conscious customers and should be released onto the market before June 2007. DT is also considering the sale of Internet businesses in France and Spain to attain more investment resources elsewhere.
DT still offers its broadband services through its subsidiary T-Online that offers a wide range of broadband content as a part of the T-Online portal called "Vision". In November 2003, DT launched a broadband VoD service followed by the launch of its "Vision on TV", a premium broadband VoD service in 2004. Later in May 2006, DT added the new T-Home service to its residential offerings which blends Digital TV, VoD and a row of other interactive features via VDSL broadband.
freenet.de - Freenet is an internet service provider offering DSL, telephony and VoIP services in Germany. Until very recently, the operator was a subsidiary of Mobilcom. On 2 March 2007, mobilcom AG and freenet.de AG mergered into telunico holding AG. As a result, the two companies mobilcom AG and freenet.de AG have ceased to exist and all shares are being transferred to telunico holding AG. In a further step, telunico holding AG was renamed to freenet AG.
On 31 Jan 2007, freenet.de AG acquired 380.000 B-2-C-Schmalband and broadband customer contracts from German Tiscali. Approximately, one third were broadband customers.
QSC - Quality Service Communications (QSC) is a Broadband access provider in Germany serving the small and medium-size business market.
Kabel Deutschland - is a cable operator in Germany offering cable TV, radio broadcast, Video-on-Demand (VOD) and cable Internet services. The company launched its high-speed Internet and VOD services in Hameln on 29 Oct 2002. In July 2006, the operator was given the, ‘Eco Award 2006’ for being the best internet service provider.
Telefonica O2 Deutschland - Telefonica Deutschland (TD) is a part of the Telefonica group of companies, is an alternative IP carrier in Germany. It offers a wide range of telecommunication services such as VPN based on IP or MPLS technology, integrated voice and data services, web hosting and cable TV services in Germany. It was formed after the two ISPs, mediaWays and HighwayOne merged in January 2003.
August 2006, in the course of the takeover of O2 Germany through Telefonica S.A., Telefonica Deutschland's business service unit was merged with that O2 Germany and rebranded to O2 DSL.
O2 Germany, is a subsidiary of the Telefonica O2 Europe and part of the Spanish telecommunication company Telefonica S.A.. The company offers as integrated communication supplier innovative mobile data services, mobilfunk, DSL and fixed network telephony. Telefonica O2 Europe has 38 million mobile - and fixed network customers in Great Britain, Ireland, the Czech Republic and Germany. In Feb 2007, Telefonica Slovakia joined the O2 Europe Group, opening new markets of 400.000 pre-registerd potential customers, for O2 Europe.
Telecom Italia Deutschland (HanseNet) - HanseNet Telekommunikation, founded in 1995, is a regional telecommunications service provider in Germany. The company operates a fiber optic network within the economic area of Hamburg. It offers broadband net access via IP and other telecom services including fixed and data connections to its customers. On 29 July 2003, HanseNet was acquired by Telecom Italia from e. Biscom in 250 million Euros.
In March 2007, Telecom Italia took over the Internet access business of AOL Germany. Through the takeover, Alice became the second-largest Internet provider in Germany, being a subsidiary of Telecom Italia Deutschland, with more than 3,2 million total customers, of which 2 million subscribe to broadband services.
Broadnet AG - Broadnet is an internet service provider in Germany and offers broadband, VoIP, IP Centrex, virtual one private ones nets (VPN) and Hosting services to its customers. It has a large DSL network in Germany and is licensed to operate in over 10 European countries. The operator offers its business broadband service under the brand name ‘dataHighways’.
In April 2007, the board of directors from QSC AG and Broadnet AG agreed on the amalgamation of Broadnet AG and QSC AG, and on a share exchange rates.
NetCologne - is a telecoms operator in Germany offering unbundled ADSL and SHDSL access. In the initial roll-out in August and September 2001, NetDSL was made available in Koln, Bergisch Gladbach, Bonn, Siegburg and Bornheim Merten. In the second roll-out phase, which started in October 2001, the service was extended to include Leverkusen, Opladen, Porz, Bensberg, Niederkassel, Wesseling, Bruhl and Hurth Pulheim.
Primacom - Primacom is a cable company with operations in Germany and the Netherlands. It offers an extensive range of communication services such as analog and digital TV and radio, cable Internet and broadband cable telephony services.
In April 2007, Primacom reached around one million customers in Germany. Approximately 350.000 households were connected to the digital broadband cable network of Primacom and can access the Triple play offer - digital television, internet and phone service.
